Martin P Griffiths CBE DL joins Your Choice

Our Your Choice Clinical Lead network sessions go from strength to strength!

LIIA and the Your Choice team were joined by Martin P Griffiths CBE DL Trauma Surgeon and Violence Reduction Lead NHS England, and Clare Bingham, Consultant Clinical Psychologist.

Martin articulated perfectly in this short clip why using London’s brilliant youth practitioners is at the heart of the Your Choice programme’s success. If you would like to hear the full session, please see the comments section for the link!Your Choice is a new pan-London, pro-social Violence Reduction Programme. It is delivered by all 32 London local authorities through their adolescent safeguarding teams.

The Your Choice-trained practitioners work with young Londoners between 11 & 17 at risk of contextual harm, using psychologically informed, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) tools and techniques.Essentially the programme aims to empower young people, taking a public health approach to help break the cycle of violence and harm.

However, most importantly the programme allows for delivery alongside the more systemic work that local authorities are so experienced at.Your Choice was designed by Dr Karla Goodman for London’s local authorities on behalf of the London Innovation and Improvement Alliance (LIIA), one of England’s nine regional sector-led children’ sector improvement alliances.

LIIA continues to support London’s local authorities to deliver the programme and participate in its external evaluation. It is a 2 ½ year programme that was initially funded by the UK Home Office and now by the Youth Endowment Fund (YEF), commissioned and project-managed by our colleagues at the Mayor of London’s Violence Reduction Unit (VRU).  The programme is currently in the Pilot phase of a rigorous Randomised Control Trial evaluation run by the Institute For Fiscal Studies and the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families.
